Dang, a Rob Colombo Junior. How cool to have your dad also be Rob Colombo.
26 JULY, 1953 – 1 FEBRUARY, 2022
Robert Roy Colombo Jr. “Bob”, age 68, of Bradenton, Florida passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, after valiantly battling cancer, never once complaining and making jokes up to the day before he died. He was born July 26, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Robert Roy Colombo Senior, MD and Alyce Gaulandri Colombo, RN. Bob was a graduate of Poly Prep, County Day School – College Prep. He received his BA in Psychology at Saint Bonaventure, 1975 and his Masters at St. John’s University, 1979, in Experimental Psychology.
Bob was a member of the St. Bonaventure’s Rifle Team with the highest score, National Rifle Association and a member of the Rifle club in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He loved camping and “puttering” – building and fixing things; taking photos, where he documented every event and filed by year and category. Bob loved military history, from the respect he had for all those who served, especially his father, a WWII veteran. He could tell stories about tactics and battles to the finest detail. He served as an Ministry Leader for Adult Basketball for Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood, NJ for over 35 years.
Bob was a diehard Disney fan whose annual trips yielded many stories and fun memories. He could have opened a Blockbuster video store and music store. He knew the names of the movie stars, he could name a song and an artist within the first 2 notes.
Bob was genuine and his integrity was unbelievable. He was so positive, upbeat, happy, loving, creative, generous and kind. There was no one that he met, that he did not leave a positive lasting impression. Bob was a very intelligent man with a sweet soul who could talk with anybody about anything. He never wanted to rock the boat or make someone feel uncomfortable. Always concerned about others before himself. He had a gentle and kind way about him that made everyone around him feel good. How could you not love him! All who ever met Bob will remember his kind ways, his silly and funny jokes and his generous nature. Bob was a sentimental hoarder. It took a year and a half to transition from New Jersey to Florida, as he needed to sort through his “memories.”
He is and will be greatly missed forever. The world is a lot emptier and sadder today with the loss of Bob.
Bob is survived by his loving and cherished wife, Lindsey Sutman Colombo; his beloved daughter, Elizabeth Ann Colombo, Esq; brother, William Colombo and his wife Sheila Colombo; sister, Clare Colombo, MD and her husband Ron Yestrebi and brother-in-laws, William Sutman and his wife Jennifer Meeker Sutman, and Fr. Frank Sutman, O.P. He also leaves behind, 4 loving nephews, Ryan Colombo and his wife Elizabeth Colombo, Sean Colombo and his wife Vicky Colombo, Connor Colombo and Mickey Haugh and his wife Jenny Haugh; his loving niece, Shina Zehnder and her husband Andrew Zehnder and 3 loving nephew in laws, Andrew, Kevin and Daniel Sutman .
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at a later date.
